It’s been a long time since I’ve had the luxury to get out my oil paints and work on something new. About five months to be exact (ish).
It feels good, really good.
It took me a bit to get back into the new work – I had to repair a few paintings that had shifted and rubbed some layers off. From there it went pretty slow as I waited for the new layers to dry so I could hang them and start on a new idea. I went up to it with a little trepidation not sure how I would work on the canvas and if the paint would be forgiving. Turns out I needn’t have worried. It was smooth and easy like I’d never stopped.
So here I am expanding on my body of work again, trying some new things, and putting myself out there for shows (well, soon anyway). Who knows, maybe I can make a career out of this.
This is my first post (also my first blog – I know, I know!), so naturally I want to say something that is funny, witty, and just plain amusing to catch your interest. However, I don’t have anything like that right now, so I apologize. I will say, though, that I will be blogging about my art and the art of my new community, Columbia City (Seattle, WA).
I am a Missouri native that has just been transplanted to the big city! I have always been creative and started drawing as soon as I could hold a pencil, I’m not really into pens but will use them occasionally. I’ve been working in retail for 10 years. All of them at a large bookstore that is currently still in business (wink, wink) , and just started at an art supply store that you may have heard of, or not. Utrecht. I applied with them for various reasons, however the main being that I wanted to be around other creative people who would inspire me to work on my art.
So that being said, I am here and hopefully I will have more for you soon and this won’t peter out like other things you have to keep up with but don’t because you are either lazy or its just too much work.
